Mietta's Review
Once The Marine Cafe this space just off the road before Lorne's main drag, has moved from Greece and become a Spanish restaurant. The emphasis has shifted to the bar, and tapas is available to facilitate the consumption of it's products. You can sit outside or in.

Spanish-style food and tapas, Moroccan-style decor, a legion of regulars and a fun vibe make this one of Lornes most atmospheric eateries.

"Ba Ba Lu BAR is the Movida of Lorne! Friendly, stylish, relaxed, seaside atmosphere. The food is really gorgeous! We ate 3 nights out of 3 and had a different choice each time. The host of our B&B described it as the Lorne experience and she was not wrong. The owner changes the menu daily depending what is fresh and in season and it shows! Fabulous service too ... Don't miss it!"

From the first sip of a perfect Genovese latte in the olive-tree-lined courtyard, you know the little things matter at Ba Ba Lu

Impromptu Spanish lessons reflect the fun attitude that, along with good food and an amiable owner, have made this the in-place in Lorne.

Ba Ba Lu's authentic tapas isn't for lovers of mild flavours - you'll find garlic aplenty and chipotle chillies to blow your head off. Try the Cuban cornbread with hot black frijoles or tiny meat empanadas with mint sauce for a real flavour hit.
Eat & Drink Restaurant Guide - 2006
'The theme is set by Spanish music and Moorish features: the menu covers tapas, slightly larger racion, and mains with a solid seafood representation suited to the beachside location, and the food is well-cooked and finely flavoured in ingredient-focussed Spanish fashion. Specials add to the choice and feature local catch.
The wine list covers an interesting range including some Spanish selections all at reasonable prices and a
BYO option allows you to source from your cellar.
It's very friendly, and buzzy, and a relaxed dining experience.
The Age Good Food Guide - 2006 score 13/20
Ba Ba Lu's zesty Spanish focus extends from the background music to the Moorish fretwork lanterns, and into the bathrooms where a 'teach yourself Spanish' tape might be playing. While backpackers from the upstairs hostel make merry at the bar and in the courtyard, families crowd around paper-over-linen tables to share tapas plates.

NEW owners of this spacious restaurant (it was The Marine Cafe) have kept the potted roses and added tablecloths and flowers. But it's a zestful approach to food and service that has really brought the place into full bloom. The menu is a spirited document.

It's hard not to unwind in this airy dark-wood space ... sitting outside or in, you'll find Lorne's cosmo set milling with backpackers, downing icy beers and enjoying authentic Spanish tapas.
